About Us

Digital Alberta is an industry-led organization devoted to promoting and connecting our thriving digital media community across Alberta, Canada. Through professional development workshops, advocacy work, and business development activity, Digital Alberta is building the digital media industry provincially and promoting it abroad.

The digital media industry is defined as the creative convergence of digital arts, science, technology and business for human expression, communication, social interaction, and education. The industry spans several disciplines, including but not limited to: audio, video, game design, animation, modeling, simulation, and interactive design. Digital media is produced across several platforms including web, game consoles, HDTV, DVD, and mobile devices.

The global digital media industry is expected to grow from $28.5 billion in 2005 to more than $65 billion by 2010. In Alberta, digital media is considered a key contributor to the provincial ICT industry which is made up of 6,300 companies, 57,000 employees, and generating over $9.4 billion in annual revenues.

Our Vision

Our vision is to stimulate the growth and development of a thriving digital media ecosystem in Alberta. By functioning together as a unit, we can position Alberta as a leader in the global digital media value chain. To do this, we have produced an action agenda formed around ten guiding principles. By raising the awareness with respect to Alberta's digital media capabilities with domestic business communities, by promoting our innovators and creators globally, and creating a more favorable investment climate, the digital media industry can reach its full economic potential in this province.
