Calling all creatives! Edmonton’s Festival of Light hosts Artistic Competition
July 2, 2016It’s all fun and games: the state of our gaming industry
October 21, 2016For the past 15 years Digital Alberta has been awarding the best and brightest with the honour of a Digital Alberta Award. This year we changed something.
We realized that film and television has the Rosies, theatre has the Sterlings and the Bettys, social media has the Yeggies (in Edmonton), and the Banff World Media Festival has the Rockies. This year, Digital Alberta's board of directors decided is was high time to give our awards a name! Thus begat the Embers.
The Embers Awards event was presented at the conclusion of the highly successful CAMP Festival put together by Bram Timmer and his team. The event saw some of the top minds in the digital media industry sharing their experiences and stories over the course of two days.
The Ember Awards was hosted at the very hip downtown Theatre Junction in Calgary. The pre-show networking session was a brackish mix of post CAMP Festival attendees and those arriving for the Embers. The theatre lobby was electric from the post-presentation discussions from the afternoon's CAMP speakers.
Once the audience was seated, they were welcomed by the evening's was emcee, the effervescent Renee Amber.
The ceremony was kicked off by a speech from our board president Peter Bishop who shared the stage with the rest of the board of directors who had all had a hand in making both the CAMP Festival and the Ember Awards a reality.
The nominees were evenly represented across the province with the bulk of the entries coming from Edmonton and Calgary. The evening saw Alberta celebrating some of the best work in the province with a couple of companies taking a lion's share of awards home with them.
Awards like the Embers allow us to reflect on the amazing talent and skill that lives and works in this province. As Albertans we tend to be a roll up your sleeves breed that doesn't put much credence on self-promotion. The Embers allows us to shine a light on and celebrate the brilliant digital media sector we have and the excellence in it.
Go take a look at this year's Ember winners.
The board would like to say thank you to all those who helped make the evening a resounding success:
- Jenn Egroff Delconte – volunteer coordinator and all our amazing volunteers
- Jessica Seymour – video coordinator
- Damian Blunt – motion and graphic designer
- Mike Seehagel – photographer
The board would also like thank our generous sponsors!
